Flow State_ Workspace

In pursuit of an ideal Flow State

Located in a busy street of a busy city centre, this relatively small office for an expanding team required a solid but flexible design objective. The project aspired that through design, it would try and capture a perfect Flow State in which during an activity, be it individual work or a process of reflection and brainstorming, the person is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, a sense of full involvement, and perceptive and sensory awareness. With a balance of many equally important aspects of a working process that were observed during the time spent with the team, the intention was to create alternative workspaces that inspire a mental state where  the user is mindfully absorbed in the activity, resulting with transformation in one’s sense of time by way of increased productivity.

The small team of the applied cybernetics company Bitsapphire is often caught  in a workflow that alternates between team brainstorming and creative individual work. This pushed us to think of designing two different spaces in which these two types of ‘flow states’ can be developed interchangeably: teamwork and creative individual workspace.

An additional space was planned for the more formal activities like small meetings, consultations, and closed conference calls, set in floor-to-ceiling glass panes with roll-able translucent shades to maintain auditory privacy yet allow for a visually open space full of natural light. In addition, the office has a small, highly-functional kitchen, and a high plant shelf that is well lit and acts as a living separation between spaces.

Jungle Workspace – Individual Creative Workspace

The Jungle Workspace began as a crucial necessity for multi-use alternative workstations. The limitations of the space were used to an advantage very suitable for the team, where this specific design would give each user a semi-private workstation in a set of the very qualities of space that were vital for the productivity and efficiency required, as well as effortless attention on their work. The design enables a variation of work positions ranging from sitting on the floor, to standing up. Alternating between different positions rather than a continuous seated one is recommended and can be very healthy for the body.

The colour dynamics of the workspace mean to aid focus and calmness with cool colours while in close proximity, yet be visually engaging from afar to boost inspiration through warmer hues. An added element of moss and lichens planted in integrated containers acts as a low-level break between workstations as well as a small-scale visual barrier for better focus.

Crew Deck – Teamwork

In order to support a connection in a more traditional way of work which consists of discussions, brainstorming, and collectively coming up with solutions, the team desk was designed to do just that: enhance communication between team members.

To support the needs and requirements of the team and their unique methods of working, the shape of this workstation was determined through automated analysis of movement, prioritising an unobstructed visual connection between the users, which resulted in a completely computer-generated contour that encourages these specific qualities of the work setting and flow.

Today’s relaxed and flexible state of work means that people are utilizing the office space for more than simply working. Workplaces have to some degree become a secondary home, where work, leisure, lifestyle, and self-care combine, making it necessary that the space is designed to adapt to these needs more than ever.

OpenResearch is a software company with offices in Vienna and Prishtina that aims to create this kind of environment where the people and the space cooperate.

Inspired by the space and the planets as a concept theme, the workspace is divided in three separate but interlaced volumes.

Ground Control is where the bulk of the work happens. The work desks focus on providing each person with an individual space and a coworking option, where the main goal is to inspire productivity.

Mars close by is where ideas turn into decisions. Through a closed space that is still visually connected to the rest of the office, Mars doubles as a conference room, plays on the audio-visual dimension, providing an unimpeded view of people working and complete silence at the same time. The colours encourage successful brainstorming and further cooperation.

Just behind Mars, the rigid way of working takes a back seat and an alternative, more relaxed workspace is created on The Moon area. Here people can unwind, sit and work leisurely, or just spend a little time chatting, away from their screens.

By analyzing intangible aspects of the space such as flow of movement, social interactions between coworkers, work typology patterns as well as the very human condition, and by combining it all with tangible aesthetic aspects, a contemporary work setting originated that is both functionally validated and aesthetically pleasing.

Kuzeen_ Portable Kitchen

With the increasing demand for furnishing small spaces as effectively as possible, it is essential to wrap things up in a clean-cut composition. Kuzeen is a mobile kitchen best suited for teams and companies that change offices often, or for small office spaces in general. Searching for an easy way to assemble a kitchen in a simple yet functional way, we came up with the design that takes up minimal space for maximum functionality. Kuzeen has all the essential parts needed to replace a normal kitchen setup, occupying a fraction of the space. For offices and working areas that go for a more multi-functional approach, Kuzeen is the perfect addition to the space.

Depending on the needs, Kuzeen can be modified by adding or removing compartments which vary in size and usage.

As a space that is a hub of innovative businesses and young entrepreneurs, Innovation Centre Kosovo needed a welcoming reception that with convey the coolness that the incubator has.

This area used to have a large reception desk that took up too much space, and the whole floor was used only as a transit hallway, something quite different from the other floors where there were many small spots that were used for relaxing and taking a break from work.

The challenge was to create a couple of micro-environments that did not require redoing the whole ground floor, yet brought new life to the mainly unused area.

The first step was designing a reception desk that fit the requirements but did not take up unnecessary space. This desk was integrated with an amphitheater suitable for a welcoming

Innovation Centre Kosovo (ICK) is home to many up and coming startups in Kosovo and the main place where innovation and technology happen in Prishtina. It’s only natural for ICK’s HUB 038 to represent the same values and enhance the high-quality way of working.

Prior to the transformation, the space was used as an event area, with no particular program and without a clear identity. Transforming the existing space into a highly flexible, multi-functional area for new startups and as a co-working space that’s full of character, requires a specific design strategy. Since the ICK is in itself a large co-working environment, it was very important that the HUB inspires that same cooperation between young professionals and new businesses, as well as with lecturers and trainers.

HUB 038 can alter between anything from business and individual work-spaces to screenings and lectures. The easy transformation from one to the other is one of the main creative objectives that were successfully reached, focusing on a new dynamic in the relations between the users. Creating a number of different work-space options like sitting, standing, or even lying down provides this area with a much sought-after adaptability.

In order to attain a comfortable solution for each occasion, the furniture had to be tailored to each combination of use. FlipDesk and Droids by Modicular proved to be the perfect solution for this space.

A housing building made as compact as possible, lowering the cost of construction as well as the cost of maintaining it. It allows for flexibility and empowers the sense of community.

Whilst looking into the incomes and outputs of an average Balkan family, this project tries to provide high quality and spacious dwellings into a pay range what might be considered affordable to this type of family. This was achieved by tackling the problem in different ways. First the building was made as compact as possible, lowering the cost of construction as well as the cost of maintaining it. Secondly, by analyzing the lifespan of a family, the project gives all the flexibility the family needs in order to expand and/or divide the unit into multiple apartments. This gives the building a long-lasting life and a sense of community. The final project meant that the families now could own the same sized housing unit with 55% of the original price.
